June 24, 2024—CFISD was recently named an Outstanding District of Distinction by the Texas Educational Theatre Association (TxETA). The award recognizes and honors individual schools and districts that are making outstanding contributions to raising the standards for theatre education through achievement, curation of resources, diversity and advocacy for theatre arts.
In addition, Cypress Creek High School was named an Exemplary High School of Distinction by TxETA.
“We are always so thankful to our staff for providing our students the amazing opportunities in our theatre programs,” said John Morrison, director of fine arts. “Whether it’s acting, costume and set design or lights and sound, our theatre programs offer incredible experiences for our community.”
To earn the prestigious honor, schools and districts across the state were evaluated in different categories, including theatre course offerings, performance opportunities and venues, theatre curriculum, leadership, advocacy, technology and administration attendance. All applications were reviewed and verified by an awards committee.
TxETA aims to support, promote and expand educational theatre at all levels by providing educational opportunities, building a network of resources and support and creating a forum for establishing standards, programs and projects in order to celebrate the importance of theatre.
